The 2009 Holiday Roundup

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everyone! Alright, alright, I'm a little late, but this post has been sitting in my drafts for three weeks and hasn't gotten any further, so I'm just going to go for it. Sorry for the lack of pictures -- hopefully I'll get back to loading them up when things are a little less hectic.

What would the holidays with kids be without the school Christmas concert? (Somehow our kids' school hasn't yet put a ban on the mention of Jesus or singing traditional Christmas carols, which surprises me every year.) Here's Malcolm (rather bashfully) performing the "Reindeer Hokey-Pokey":

And Maren and Aidan doing "Un Noël Comme Autrefois," which featured a very energetic circle dance finale!

We had an awesomely mellow holiday ... the first three days after my exams were done the kids were still in school, so I didn't do much more than lay around on the couch all morning. And I didn't feel one bit guilty about it! By the third day I discovered a few side effects of the end of semester: sparkling eyes and a radiant complexion. Funny how stress relief does that, huh?

The kids enjoyed helping me out with a few pre-Christmas projects, including some hand-sewn gift bags. I whipped up a project for a dear friend, too, but you'll have to wait to see the bird-mobile!

And here's one picture that I have access to right now: the Christmas Morning Breakfast Bonanza! Scrambled eggs (which Maren has learned to make herself), a variety of fruit, blueberry smoothies, Grandma Johnson's scones, pumpkin butter and, yes, bacon. I love Christmas morning at our house ... it's just the right mix of excitement and mellow-ness, celebration and contemplation, getting and giving ... but maybe a bit overboard on the gluttony. (^_^)

Hope that you all got off to a good start with the New Year ... peace to you, friends.

Yeah man, that's how we roll around here. Long periods of blackout followed by intense blogging display. I've found it to be the most effective strategy (for achieving what purpose, you ask? I have not yet determined.).
