Summer holds out so many gifts to us that I'm not finding very much time to spend in front of the computer...
The rhythm of watering and tending to my first gardening attempt... taking the plants for a walk to get the most sun... blossoms on the tomato plants and even (!) baby green tomatoes suspended from the vines.
Warm and fragrant fields of berries... the good company of family and friends as we work alongside each other... the soul-lift that comes just from hearing someone else laugh... the rewarding, beautiful heap of ruby red strawberries... so many delicious ways to eat them!
The boisterous camaraderie of cousins and special care given to the youngest... four kids and the wide, wide ocean... the discovery of so many interesting critters... a tender impulse of compassion and rescue, even toward jellyfish... gentle sleepiness settling in and the smell of salt on the skin.
Long evenings of light and warmth... the coolness of hardwood on bare feet... quiet solitary walks, camera in hand, after children are settled in bed... a stunning sunset... waking again to sunlight each morning.
I hope that you are all basking in the glow of these long summer days, too.

oh melanie....i am enjoying summer out here, but after reading this, it makes me miss the ocean!!
Yep. Even though I did most of my growing up out there, I find it hard to imagine straying too far from the ocean now. Soon, though... right? Not long until you relocate near salt water?
Wow Melanie, I'm glad there are some people who like summer! I'm an autumn girl.
I think of myself as a real Canadian girl, since I have nearly equal affection for all the seasons. But I'm also such an in-the-moment person that each season is my favourite when I'm in it! (Except for when certain seasons - I'm talking to you, Winter - are bullies taking a much longer turn than is fair.)
Oh my Mel,
You have such a gift for writing what so many of us are feeling this time of year. Summer!!!! Short, but I relish in every moment. Gardens, my pool, 4 wheeler, evenings sitting outside, camping on the beach. Fall is great too though, not so many bugs, and Harvest time ( if my own garden does ok, lol). Thank you by the way ,for posting the beautiful pictures of the wedding Maren was in, she was gorgeous.
Sounds like you're enjoying summer, too. :)
Glad you enjoyed the pictures from the wedding... I was surprised that no one mentioned them after all the clamoring!
