"Hello, do you want to buy some lemonade?"

On a much better note...

Maren ventured into both entrepeneurship and philanthropy this week. Lately she has been very excited about and interested in helping people who don't have as much as we do. At VBS a few weeks ago, she learned about Turn on the Tap, a Samaritan's Purse program that is working to provide clean drinking water in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. She was really surprised to hear that some people don't have clean, safe water to drink.

Maren came up with the idea to do a lemonade stand to collect money for Turn on the Tap, and I definitely wanted to support her in that! So we got some pamphlets (and permission from City Hall to set up in the park), she mixed up a copious quantity of lemonade, and loaded up the wagon with the necessary lemonade-stand supplies.

So far, she has raised $23.65 and perfected her pitch. ("Hello, do you want to buy some lemonade? It's to make a well to help people drink clean drinking water.") She's planning to set up again at Victoria Park this afternoon. Feel free to drop by, if you live in our town!

Hello Maren,
Wooo hooooo, , you will make some people very happy helping them to have clean water. We have so many things that alot of people do not have, clean water, a home, a bed to sleep in, food to eat. Thank you for helping those who have less than we do, I would have bought lots of lemonade from you if I had been there. I am just curious to know how long you will be trying to raise money, because I would like to help you some.

To Grandma,

I want you to be there, too. I want to do it even on the weekend when I don't need to go to school. Maybe you could come someday to Victoria Park or wherever we're doing it, because I would love it if you do.

I don't know how long I will be doing it, but I know I'll end when I get one hundred dollars.

Hey, chickadee! I will totally come to your lemonade stand if you do it on the weekend. I'm working during the week taking care of other kids, otherwise I'd go today. And I'm with everyone else, we're all really proud of you for your hard work and dedication!

Maren,
What an awesome thing to do for other people. You are such a caring person...and I bet that lemonade was delicious, too! Good for you for thinking about other people who could use some help. We sure miss you.
