If you've been wondering why blogging has been so hit-and-miss at thosemarvelousmealeys (and I know that question has been keeping many of you awake), it's mostly a combination of summer, a new house, and laziness. But I actually have proof that we've done something other than sit on our duffs all summer.

We love our cute little house, warts (read: faux wood paneling) and all. But hey, if you've got wart remover (read: paint), might as well use it, right?
So off to Benjamin Moore for paint tester pots. Hooray for tester pots! We planned to paint the dining room and living room the same colour, but the light in each space is
really different, so I wanted to see the colours on the walls.

Et voilĂ ! From left to right, Louisiana Hot Sauce, Mayflower Red, and Bonaparte. Since Mitch thought Mayflower Red looked like smeared poo and Bonaparte looked like smeared blood, we went for Mexicana, just a teeny shade lighter than Louisiana Hot Sauce.

What's a boy to do while his sister's away at VBS all week? He was over the moon when I finally caved and let him paint with us. I figure water-based acrylic can't be that much worse than the craft acrylic paints they use, right? I mean, he
smeared his body in that stuff!
Presto change-o! We still need to put a second coat in the dining room... and paint the trim... and pick up some new molding and baseboards... but I love it! We wanted to unite the living and dining rooms so that the space felt more like one big room with distinct areas. I'm thinking of painting the casing around the doorway Mexicana, too, so that it doesn't stop your eye there. What do you think?
The colour is so warm and inviting, and really brings out the richness of the wood floors. I've taken to greeting the room every time I come downstairs. "Oh hello, beautiful room! Aren't you looking lovely today!"

Oh Mel, it looks wonderful!!!! Love the color it is very warm! I'm glad that I've got to see some of your house. I may just need to pop in one of these days :) Since you asked for opinions here is mine: I wouldn't paint the casing. I think it looks great the way it is. However if you find it chopping up your two rooms (which is what you said that you didn't want) then paint away. K, done...enjoy your new space!
It is absolutely gorgeous!! I have been looking at a very similar color to repaint my living area in. How did the paint go over the panel board for you? I just painted someones kitchen over panneling, and hoping it sticks ok.
Yes, still can't decide about the casing... the colour might be enough to unite the rooms. Hard to say.
Mom, we bought a primer that adheres to paneling called Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer Sealer. It went on beautifully!
YAY!!!! It's so nice to see the finished product and it looks AMAZING! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!! Is the Mexicana color the one we were looking at when I was over? Have you decided on trim color yet? Depending on what color you go with that, I think that will help determine if you paint the casing or not. Good luck friend and I love it!!! It's the perfect amount of redness and orangeness!!!
I LOVE IT TOO! Mexicana is basically the same colour as the one we were looking at, just barely a smidgen lighter... I found it on a completely different colour card. So weird, eh?
I love it too!!! I'm anxiously awaiting more pictures of your interior!!! Mmmm, lovely floors and warm cozy room. Wonderful.
Sorry my comment didn't work the other day mel, i'll let you in on what it was supposed to say though...I LOVE YOUR HOUSE:) The color you chose is awesome!!
