It's easy as 1 2 3 ...

Can you tell what has been on my children's minds lately? Under Maren's capable teaching, Malcolm is going to be an uber-prepared preschooler. They've covered the alphabet, of course, but also matching upper and lower case letters, basic phonics, and blending sounds. Amd then there's the math prep....

Maren is in a state of nervous excitement about beginning French Immersion, feeling uneasy about not knowing the language yet. There's only so much reassuring that can be done, but I think she'll be okay. She's mostly just flabbergasted by the amount of "storage" requested on the supply list: a backpack, two pencil cases, and a whole box of large ziploc bags!

Malcolm is feeling very grown-up about going off to school. Mrs. Q., the incredible and wonderful preschool teacher Maren had, won't be at the synagogue this year... sniff, sniff. I didn't think it would be possible for the preschool to find another teacher as competent, compassionate, and just-all-around-great... and then they hired my sister-in-law! Yahoo! I'm sure Malcolm will get tripped up now and then on whether to call her Aunt Jenn or Mrs. Mealey. Maybe he'll just do what Mitch did when he had his parents as teachers: avoid calling the teacher by name.
