Help!

Maren's 5th birthday is approaching, and she has decided she wants to have a castle party. And go bowling. Not sure we'll be able to combine those terribly well!

I would like to enlist your imaginations to help us flesh out the theme. I'm thinking that Mitch and I will paint a castle and dragon mural on a roll of newsprint, and try to make a castle cake (yikes!). So that only leaves planning games and activities, food, decorations, invitations, cheap goody bags, and whatnot. Will you help us out by using the comment section to post your castle-related birthday party ideas? There will probably be six or seven kids (in case that figures into your idea), and it should be warm outside -- although I can't predict whether it will rain or not.

Look forward to hearing your suggestions!

Why not try and find some great big cardboard boxes and have the kids make their own castles? I was also going to suggest a jousting tournament, but I think castle-making might be safer ;)

Maybe the girls could make princess hats, with a scarf coming out of the end {like a rolled up cone}, can lprobably get some scarves at a used clothing place. And they can color, and glitter them. The boys could be kings and make crowns.
Maybe also, if you could gather enough milk cartons, and cover them with paper, Add,toilet paper rolls for the tops of the castles. Could be fun.

For a cake, try using a square or rectangle with frosting covered ice-cream cone turrets, and decorate. Or make a really big rice-crispy square. (Janice, do I sound like mom?) Try Googling "castle cake," too.

Reminder to me:

- build sandcastles at the park if the weather's nice
- design a castle maze for the loot bags
- use tiny wooden blocks and glue to build a castle and paint it
- draw a chalk castle maze at the parking lot
