Hello, Mitch here to write a few words. I have the day off and I guess I need to do something "communications" related. So, I figure some words concerning Easter might be appropriate.
I find it interesting to think about the famous twelve disciples of Jesus after his death. It isn't that I'm morbid, I just think that is a real moment that is more "relatable" than some of the others. Witnessing limbs being restored isn't as common for us as feeling like everything you thought that was right is crashing in on you. And that is how the disciples most likely felt. They had given up everything to follow Jesus and now he's dead. I picture them all silently sitting in a dark locked room, eyes unfocused, and constantly wondering if they are hearing Roman soldiers marching up the stairs to arrest them. They all have the same questions going over and over in their head: "God, what gives? What in the world am I going to do now?" See, that's a question I can relate to.
The cool thing was in that moment - despite them bailing on Jesus, despite their fears crippling them, and despite them feeling unconnected with anything - Jesus (alive and more than well) stepped into the room. He didn't need the door or a window, just a flag flown. Some might call this flag a sign of surrender, parlay, or simple connection. Really, I don't care what you call it as long we can agree that the disciples were finally being honest as they raised it. No more pretending they were something they weren't. No more pretending they knew things they didn't. No more backups to reboot (I needed some technological jargon in here somewhere). Just the need to be uncomfortably and brutally honest. And man, Jesus honed in on that fast! He didn't chew into them, make them feel guilty, deny how they actually felt, or act aloof. He spoke right to what they were being honest about and gave them the peace they were desperate for.
Well, thanks for entering into some of my head space. And from our family to you, peace be with you this Easter holiday.
