March break was just the right balance of activity and lazing about.
I planned a few crafts, outings, and activities for them, but I was most impressed by the kids' ability to independently create their own entertainment.
Four pompoms were the only materials needed for a complex game, played for nearly an hour each day. Pipe cleaners transformed into a number of useful and decorative inventions. $4.39 in pennies (which had already been essential components of art projects and a science experiment) served as math practice, noise makers, and an extended water-play time. An endless array of paper creations were produced.
Birthday parties, however, were not part of the holiday. The party was stormed out twice! Booooooooo.
Malcolm has been a pretty good sport about the postponements. Snow and rain are forecast for this weekend, too, but we've switched to a skating party so that we'll be able to go ahead... unless the roads are unsafe. What a winter!
