I don't know why we haven't gotten around to decorating eggs before this year. I think part of it is that, like Christmas, we have strong feelings about keeping the focus on Christ, but there are so many other fun traditions associated with the holiday, too.
As we were listening to a CD with the song "The Wonderful Cross" on it, Maren asked, "Why do they call it the wonderful cross?" How appropriate to Good Friday! I told her that even though it was sad for Jesus while he was on the cross, it was wonderful for us that he made a way we could be friends with God. This is what makes Easter my favourite holiday of the year... the celebration of the amazing grace that reaches to us, that makes a way for us to be friends with the great Creator. Hallelujah!

We've got something similar in Scotland in the fall with Chestnuts.
Tie a string and smash it against a friends. we call it conkers.
How fun with Easter Eggs though!
Hi,
Very cool that you were able to chat with Maren about that!
So who won the "egg bunting" contest????
Egg bunting is Easter morning, so perhaps I'll post the tournament statistics Monday or Tuesday. ;)
I am so happy that I read your blog tonight . The tradition in our family will still continue tomorrow, even though I have only one child left at home. I had forgotten about bunting eggs because I was busy writing my exam today. We will not lose sight of what Easter is all about, but we will enyoy that fun part of bunting eggs also. All Glory and Honor to You our Lord Jesus Christ, We Praise Your Name Forever And Ever.A Blessed
Easter to you and your family Melanie,
Amen!
...but where does egg bunting come from, Mom? I want to hear who wins this year! Did you guys decorate eggs?
How was the exam, by the way?
We sang The Wonderful Cross in church this morning. It truly is one of those fabulous paradoxes that make it all worthwhile.
