"One of these things is not like the other things..."

One of these things is not like the other things
One of these things just doesn’t belong
Can you tell which thing is not like the other things
Before I finish my song?

(check out Cookie Monster's version here for a blast of feel-good 70s muppetry)

I don't know whether many of you glance over at the "Currently Reading..." section in the sidebar, but if you do, you might have been wondering why I'm reading the comic book-y House of M graphic novel.

Mitch and I are trying out a little experiment. I'm always recommending books to him, most of which he never reads. So after raving about Barney's Version by Mordecai Richler (which is amazing, by the way... a slow starter, but an incredible finish), Mitch agreed to read one book of my choosing... if I read one that he chose for me. I gave him a choice between Barney's Version, Larry's Party by Carol Shields, and The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.

He has started The Poisonwood Bible, in spite of the "Oprah's Book Club" sticker on the cover. It will be interesting to see what he thinks of it. Time for me to 'fess up, though. I got caught up in White Oleander by Janet Fitch (heartbreaking and stunningly beautiful) and haven't actually started House of M yet. I have very strict instructions on how to hold it (one hand supporting the spine!), to handle it carefully (don't open it all the way!), not to get fingerprints on it, breathe on it (okay, I'm exaggerating a little)... seems like too much work!

I REALLY enjoyed the Poisonwood Bible. I have a hunch Mitch might too. (I was also skeptical of the Oprah sticker). I'm looking forward to hearing both your reviews when you're finished.

I think it's great that you are going to give the graphic novel a try. I laughed as I read the instructions on how to read said book...I have a few like that in my collection as well.

So my husband isn't being OCD about it? Or do comic books attract OCD folks? Hmmmm... conundrum!
