Eventually I understood that his ear was hurting (alarm! alarm!), he was cold, and then settled into a lethargy that is very unlike him. And threw up. After twenty minutes of hitting redial, I got through to make a doctor's appointment for him. The doctor's diagnosis? "He has a cold."
Ah, well. He threw up again when we got home and had a few more bouts of chills, but he's back to normal this morning. The adventures of parenting....
Last night (post-bedtime) a friend and I saw an am-aaaa-zing show. We were both so blown away! It was in a great venue—a cultural centre that houses art galleries and a dance studio, with art on the walls and comfy couches to sit on. It was like hosting a show in my living room. So personal and intimate. And on top of that....
I was familiar with Rose Cousins as a background vocalist who had appeared on some of Steve's and Jenn Grant's songs, but didn't realize that she is an amazing singer-songwriter in her own right, nominated for two ECMAs this year. And she hasn't just done work on those albums, but also for Matt Mays, Jill Barber, and In Flight Safety, among others. Her voice is smooth and powerful, her songs honest and conversational, and she is so funny! I laughed, I cried. (Literally.)
Then along came Royal Wood. It took me a moment to adjust to his Rufus Wainwright-esque songwriting meets old-fashioned crooner-esque vocal tones, but once I did, I was hooked. He has this endearing shy-guy schtick paired with gutsy, adventurous songwriting. Incredible! You can buy music from both of these amazing artists over at Maple Music, or check out their myspace pages to hear what the hoopla is all about.
