Ach Von De Musica!

We were so excited that my friend Steve's band, Caledonia, was back in town last week. Great music, time to catch up (since no show ever starts when it says it will), and *bonus* his new-old girlfriend/my bridesmaid/amazing person, Shali came along. And we finally got to see their regular bass player, Zac, who was kayaking around Newfoundland the last three times I've seen Caledonia. Great show! I highly recommend that you head over to their website, where you can stream the EP, or even (gasp!) buy it from Maple Music.

And also great because Caledonia brought a few other Halifax folks along, Jenn Grant and Down With The Butterfly. They were both great (Down With The Butterfly's drummer is am-aaaa-zing), but it was Jenn Grant who stole my heart away.

I hadn't heard of her before (although she won Best Female Recording and Best New Artist at the 2006 Nova Scotia Music Awards), but wish I had! She writes beautiful songs, has a lovely, float-y voice, and is all sweetness and quirks. I've been sharing Malcolm's fondness for the repeat function, playing her single all weekend. (Which you should go download right away. Best $2.22 you'll spend.) Sigh... so much good music, so much of buried in the underground.
