The day has to come eventually that your kids outstrip your own achievements -- a day to celebrate the people they've become. I just didn't think it would come so soon.Maren and I settled down yesterday afternoon for a friendly game of English draughts (doesn't that sound much more impressive than checkers?) And by friendly game, I mean nobody's breaking a sweat, but I'm not dumbing down the game for her, either.
To my great embarrassment, I was soundly beaten by my kindergartener. Really demolished. She plays very strategically, so by the time I was forced into moving to a square where I'd be jumped, the board was set up for a series of jumps and double-jumps that I couldn't avoid. Maren ended the game with eight pieces left on the board, six of which were kings.
Does this mean that my daughter is brilliant or that stay-at-home-mother-dom has wilted my brain?
