Currently Checked Out on My Library Card

I vaguely remember hearing about this movie a few years ago when it was nominated for Best Documentary, and last weekend I borrowed it from the library (cheaper than renting it from Blockbuster!). Spellbound is absolutely fascinating! You may not think that a documentary following eight kids on their way to the Howard Scripps National Spelling Bee would be engrossing, but it really is.

I'm probably not going to be able to convince you to watch it if you have an extreme anti-spelling bias (but I can take you straight to the Spellers Defamation Board). I will say that the stories of these kids are more compelling than most of what comes out of Hollywood. And for sheer comedy value, it doesn't get much funnier than Harry's attempt to spell banns.

Next on my list of movies to see: Akeelah and the Bee.

You have my interest aroused Mel, so I am guessing that I would be able to rent this one at our local video store if I wanted to.I love documentaries anyway.
