My little ones have spent most of the day wearing capes. (They started with huge fluffy bath towel capes, but a trip to the grocery store necessitated a change to their light-weight traveling capes.)Wouldn't it be awesome to be so completely un-self-conscious again? I am not suggesting that childhood is completely idyllic and carefree, because I think kids encounter a lot of stressful emotions and situations in a day.
But to be able to let those stresses dissolve in laughter, to see the world with wonder, to be completely unthreatened by anyone else's opinion of who I am, to forgive quickly and fully, to be completely present in each moment and for each person.... There is so much left to learn about living and being just myself. And the children in my life are just as qualified to teach me these lessons as my wisest (and oldest) friends.
