Turns out you don't need one!

You know, I've told enough embarrassing/semi-embarrassing stories about my kids in this space that it's probably only fair that I provide you all with a chuckle at my expense.

I signed the family up for a membership at the YMCA today (hellooooo, subsidized membership!). The kids and I had so much fun looking at all the options available, and of course, being the kind of person I am, I had to run right over there tonight to try out the aquafitness class. Hokey Dinah! That was no old-lady workout! I'm going to feel it tomorrow, I'm sure, but there was also plenty of giggling on my end of things as I spun around in circles while everyone else seemed to be able to stay in one place and lost a fight with a pool noodle.

But my heartiest laughter was reserved for the moment I got out of the water and realized I hadn't brought a towel. Who goes to the pool without a towel!? There are different types of intelligence, you know, and apparently the coming-prepared-to-the-pool kind of smart is not me. Turns out you don't really need one, though, if you're willing to spend a few minutes with the hand dryer and a few paper towels. Just a tip for you if you ever find yourself in the same situation. (Which you probably won't.)

Stay tuned for the further misadventures of Mel at the YMCA ... I'm sure between zumba and laughter yoga and tai chi and community gardening, there will be plenty to report. (^_^)

Aquafitness IS tough work - agreed!

I'm laughing at you about the towel stuff because that's such a Mel move. I can just see you with a hand dryer and paper towels now... oh dear. Did you get some funny looks?

I know for those that use the Plus rooms, towels come provided free of charge. I wonder if they'd loan you one if you forgot one next time?

Have fun with all your great classes at the Y. My old stompin' grounds - love it there!

That's hilarious! I did the Aquafit class when I was at the Y in Montreal...and also had trouble staying in one spot!

Hey Mel...been awhile since I had time to check you out...sorry about that! I LOVE the Y and was very sad when we moved to Hillsborough because having a Y membership just didn't make sense anymore. I remember my first aquafitness class as well. Mandi, Ange and I laughed a lot...you're a trooper doing it yourself! Enjoy :)

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. No towel mishaps to report since that first time, and I've even managed to balance on the pool noodle ... most of the time. Sheesh, getting a job is really going to cut into my time at the Y. (^_^)

It's not hard to tell were related Mel! If it wasn't for John I would have gone to the pool a few months ago (kids in tow) without towels. I"m not sure how they would have dealt with paper towels and hand dryers. lol
