Giveaway!

Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you. (Maori proverb)

You know how sometimes life is just tough? I'm sure you do. Well, life is tough for us lately... but there are lots of good things about our life, too. We're scrambling to make ends meet, but regardless of our financial situation, I know I'm in a bad place if I ever start grasping to keep what I have to myself. I think the concept of "enough" is one that is extremely subjective... abundance has much to do with how much value I recognize in the many blessings I have been given.

So! In the spirit of generous abundance (and turning my face to the sun), I would like to do the first ever giveaway here on our blog. (Yes, it is an historic moment. A hush should be descending over the crowd now.) I've got a bit of birthday money left over and I'd like one of you to have a print of this photo!

(click on the picture to enlarge)

This truck was parked on the street behind our home... I love the way that something so hard-used and worn out can be so beautiful, evoking the colours of desert and sky, sandy beach and wide ocean.

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post by Wednesday, August 20th Friday, August 22nd and your name will go in the hat for a 12x18 print. Check back here on Thursday to see if you're the lucky winner. Good luck, friends!

PS - If you've never left a comment before, here's how it's done:

  • Click "comments" (located at the bottom of this post, before you get the Chef Malcolm post... which you really have to read about, by the way, if you haven't yet!)
  • Leave a little message in the text box letting me know you'd like to enter the draw
  • Then, where it says Choose an identity, pick Name/URL and leave your name there (you can leave the URL field blank if you don't have a website address you want to leave)
  • Cross your fingers and check back on Thursday!

Me, me, me!!! I want in! I would LOVE to be in the draw for the picture! (I guess that little "gimme" rant sort of contradicts your message on recognizing the blessings we have, huh?).

I've always loved your eye, your photos and I love the description you posted of what the colors in the image remind you of. Beautiful!

I wish I were a better comment leaver in general but when one of my favorite photographers has a giveaway I'm so there!!! This print reminds of a series of chromatic (?) prints on display in the Moncton Public Library when I was in High School. (Back in the days when I used to cut class to hang out at the library..I was cool,no?) It was a series taken in a scrap yard of old chains and car part I loved the way the artist found beauty in what everyone else would call, well scrap! Your print is another declaration that there is beauty, and therefore blesssings in every particle aroud us at all times if we just take a moment to beleive that it becomes self-evident! Lots of love sweet muse!

As the ULTIMATE beach lover, I feel that I am truly deserving of this photo :) The colors are incredible, and would go so well with my beach-themed boudoir :)

Picture titled.. "Outside of my box."...Mel, you never cease to amaze me!.. your eye for art, and finding beauty in a most uncommon place is one of the many things I love about you.. I'm sorry to admit it, but a rusty wheel rim would never have caught my eye....but If I recieved this photo, it would be a reminder to me of my thankfulness that God created you In such a way that encourages me to see "outside of my box".. Thankyou Mel..luv ya! Sara Trites.

Well Sara,
I understand your comment about just seeing rust and a wheel, but as I look more upon it, I have tried to also think outside of the box. The colors remind me of the beach, sky and sand. Thank you Mel for helping me think and see what you have seen in this photo, you are so unique, that's what I love about you.

Hey there Mel,

I tried twice to put a comment on your picture and this old gal just doesn't know what she is doing. I do want to tell you that I think your work is beautiful and it doesn't surprise me at all that you would take something that most of us would look at and think it is an eye sore and make it so beautiful through your eyes and thoughts. Thanks for shareing that with me.

Love
Aunt Sherry
