Look at this lovely girl! Isn't she gorgeous? A woman about an hour out of town took her in as a stray and nursed her back to health. She's an indoor cat now, cuddly and affectionate and great with kids, already litter-trained... sigh. We're so excited for her to join our family! She is still nursing her kitten (which you can see in the second picture), so it will be about three weeks until she comes to live with us.
Now here's where you come in, friends. The woman has just been calling her "Kitty," since they didn't want to get too attached to her. (She doesn't get along very well with their cocker spaniel.) What name do you think suits her?
Feel free to leave other suggestions for her name, but it must meet these criteria...
- two syllables
- ending with an "ee" sound
- not too cutesy!

mel, you have a beautiful family!
Thanks! I agree completely, although I'm a little biased.
ha ha ha Mel I've got to say I find it very funny that you're getting a cat with all the conversations that we had where I tried to defend my babies :) I have a feeling though that you'll quickly fall in love. I'm biased and think you should stick with Kitty :) I have a cat named that because by the time I got her to the vet to see if she was a boy or girl I was calling her that. So it just stuck because she already thought that was her name. How original...ha ha ha Whatever you pick I'm sure she'll bring much joy, fun and laughter to your household. Enjoy!
I'm thrilled you're getting a cat!! Hooray!! I voted for Mimsy, because it sounds like Whimsy, and all her colours are quite whimsical. Also, I work with a lovely woman here named Sookie, so that no longer sounds like a cat name to me.
If I wasn't allergic to cats, we would have had one by now. It would be a great addition to our world. Maybe a hairless one will do. (???)
I think the name should be "Kitty", too. My friend, Roxanne, had a cat named "Kitty", as well. Why mess with a good thing, especially if the cat thinks that it's her name.
Why not bring the kitten home, too?
Why don't Maren & Malcolm name her? I do get why you want it to sound like "Kitty".
I hope you have fun with her fuzzy self.
Oh, is she already spaded, and all the rest?

Mel, I had a thought...do you know how old she is? Even though she's litter trained, you might be able to toilet train her and not have to deal with litter at all.
Even though my cat's name is Catticus, she usually gets called "L'il Cuss" or "SweetPea" - perhaps just sticking with "Kitty" for your new addition makes the most sense.
Erin: Yes, I have crossed over to your side... ish. I'm still not sure how I'd do with a cat that's a prima donna, but the cuddly ones have won me over!
Janice: I fully appreciate your reasoning on the Suki vs. Mimsy question. And if we name her Mimsy, we can sing to her... "'Twas brillig and the slithey toves, did gyre and gimble in the wabe; all mimsy were the borogroves and the momeraths outgrabe." I'm sure she'll still get called "kitty" often even if we give her another name.
The vet thinks she's probably a year old, since she only had one kitten in this litter. It makes me happy to think that she'll be around for a long time.
Is Catticus trained to use the toilet? I wonder if all cats take to it equally as well.
Debie: Really... I didn't know you were a cat person. I don't know about the hairless option... have you actually seen those things? Go here and be chastised! http://www.tiny.cc/hairless
Tom also thinks we should get the kitten, but I think we'll start out with one pet for now. I think you may have overestimated my children's creativity... if they had their way, she'd be named Sally or John. Not enough of a bizarro quotient for the parents around here.
The woman who has her now has worked out a great deal for us to get kitty spayed and needled for only $60 once she's ready (probably six days after she's done nursing her kitten) -- much better than the $200 it would have cost!
I grew up with a cat named Jasper (a girl kitty). We had her for 16 years. I must have been immuned to her since she we adopted her when I was 7.
Scott "gave me" a cat for my first birthday after we got married. I just needed to find the right one, with the apartment who allowed them. Actually, we took an adopted kitty home back in '98, but I could barely breathe by the end of 48 hours. So, we needed to take her back. Of course, that kitty was crazy and jumped along the tops of furniture and never the floor. That would have been a nightmare. (We got a Chow Chow because I wasn't allergic to them...overwise we were going to be a cat family.)
The hairless kitty...yes, I have seen them. Hence the ???? after my comment. And, I'm sure that they are a million dollars, too. I don't think that I love cats that much ($$$$$).
Aidan has really wanted a cat. He likes them a lot. The only good thing that he could think of when we didn't have Conrad anymore was that now we could get a cat. Then, I had to tell him I was allergic...bummer. So far he is content to get one when he has his own house...much later, I hope.
$60 is a big blessing. And another blessing is if you don't have to deal with the operation, too. That might be tough on the kids not to touch her.
I hope that she is bold and courageous for you :)

she's so cute! what kind of tree is in front of your house? i don't remember seeing it before but it's all pretty and yellowy blossomy.
Awwww, I'm sorry a cat didn't work out for you, Deb. (But definitely run away from the zombie-gremlin-plucked chicken mix masquerading as a "hairless cat"!)
Rachel, I'm not sure what the tree is. It's all pretty and sunshiney at the beginning of the growing season and then green leaves come out later, which is probably why you don't remember it.
