"Most people are surprisingly bad at spotting fake smiles. One possible explanation for this is that it may be easier for people to get along if they don't always know what others are really feeling."Although fake smiles often look very similar to genuine smiles, they are actually slightly different, because they are brought about by different muscles, which are controlled by different parts of the brain."
I used to be a big-time fake smiler at strangers and I'm sure everyone I "smiled" at knew it! Give it a try. However, I do not recommend the quiz on disgust level unless you'd like to be subjected to images of gums infested with maggots or a seriously infected post-operative wound.

I got 50% right, what score did you get mel?
I got 14 out of 20! I rule!
I got 15/20.
I got 19/20 (which kind of surprised me since I don't think of myself as a touchy-feely kind of person).
I thought that kids might be more intuititive about recognizing a fake smile, so I had them try it out, too. Malcolm got 12/20 and Maren got 13/20. Interesting, huh?
I think maybe non-touch feely people might do better. If you're more discriminating in who you touch and feel (I don't mean that to sound dirty...yet somehow it does) maybe you can read the smile better to know if you actually do want to touch them.
I had 17 out of 20 correct which was vindicative since Bob was looking over my shoulder, challenging many of my choices!
