The kids recently went to see Robert Munsch with Grandma. He is the author of classics like The Paper Bag Princess and Love You Forever (which my father-in-law insists on framing as a creepy book, featuring a vaguely menacing Stalker Mom lurking in the shadows of her child's life. Classic Bob).
The show was every bit as delightful as expected, covering many of Maren and Malcolm's favourites and some stories that haven't been published yet. I even got in for free, fifteen minutes into the show. (Which is nothing to sneeze at, given that the tickets were $20 a piece. Thank you, Mr. Supernice Usher!) Munsch has more energy at 62 than some 30 year olds I know. Probably more energy than me, most days, to tell the truth.
If you've never heard him, you owe it to yourself (and any kids you know) to go to his website and listen. He has mp3s of nearly every story available for free download. It's a whole different experience! Oh, and The Current recently spoke with him during a show on imagination... have a listen to that, too.
P.S. Malcolm would like you all to know that the funniest thing in the show was when Robert Munsch had a girl up on stage with him to be Elizabeth from The Paper Bag Princess. The last few lines of the book are, "'You know what, Ronald? You are a TOAD!' And they didn't get married after all."
So at the end, Robert shouts, "You know what, Ronald? You are a--" and gives the mic to the girl, who yells "GILLYWAH!"

While I truly am a Munch fan, I have to agree with Bob about the creepy-stalker feel to Love You Forever. I've never found that to be an entirely comforting tale. (Mind you, the first time I read it, I was no longer a child, and the thought of my Mom following me EVERYWHERE, was certainly not a notion I took a fancy to.)
We love his stories! The boys love to listen to a CD we have that he reads abunch of his stories. Storie slike this make me ultra homesick for Canada!
