The Middle Eights

"What are you thinking about, Maren?"
"I was just wondering what happened when Jesus lost his tooth."
"I don't know. What do you think might have happened?"
"Well, he was born in the Middle Eights, right?"
"Ummm... the Middle Eights? Noooo... I don't think so."
"Yes, the Middle Eights."
"Oh! The Middle East?"
"Yeah."
"Yes, Jesus was born in the Middle East."
"It's dangerous there."
"Yes, it is dangerous there right now."
"So, Jesus was born in the Middle East. I will look in Throw Your Tooth on the Roof to find out what he did with his tooth."

ah ha ha ha that's awesome.... glad to see she's getting some use out of that book! That's still one of our top sellers! Hey did you ever get a chance to check out the book I told you about "If the World Were a Village"?

Maren has LOVED the book and rereads it often. A subject of unending fascination for a kid who has actually been losing teeth.

I have checked out "If the World Were a Village" and would love to get it some time! Did you know there's also a DVD? I haven't seen it, have you?

Hey, have you seen the book at the top of my "Currently Reading" sidebar? My small group is studying it and I thought of you. Might be worth looking into for leading a small group of your own, Erin!

Well..... ?? I've been in suspense for days now. Maren, what do people in the Middle East do with their teeth?

Hi Janice, this is Maren. In Egypt, they wrap their tooth in some cotton or tissue and take it outside. They say, "Shining sun, shining sun, take this buffalo's tooth and give me a bride's tooth." Then they throw the tooth high up at the eye of the sun. The Arabic word for birde is Aroussa, which also means a candy or sweet. Goodbye, Janice.

Hey, nope didn't know that there was a DVD. I would like to see that some time too!

I just checked out the book in your sidebar. Had lunch with Sue Somers the other day and she was telling me about it. Sounds like an interesting book for sure and of course right up my alley :) Maybe that's something I'll look into doing next summer. I'm busy with New Hope again so that's the only group I'll be leading for a while :) Thanks for the suggestion. Can't wait to hear how your group goes and what you think of the book!

Thanks Maren! That sounds like a really good book with some helpful information! Thank you so much for letting me know. I'd been wondering about that for a long time.

Hi Maren,
Last time I saw you you had all of your baby teeth. I see that in this picture you've lost a bottom one. Have you lost any more? It made me think of when I was the same age as you are now and I lost both of front teeth at almost the same time. My mom taught me the song "all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth" but I wouldn't sing it because I loved not having front teeth! I miss you!
