Unfortunately, the season of T-shirt weather and blooming lilacs also brings mosquitoes (which may cause my children to suffer a psychotic break before the end of the month) and junebugs (which may cause me to suffer a psychotic break right now).
I always thought "junebug" was a misnomer, since they show up mid-May around here, threatening to fly straight into my face and tangle themselves in my hair. I have been justified. In my junebug research, I have discovered that they are also called May beetles. I think I'll start a campaign to call them by that name, then I won't feel ambushed when they start buzzing around two weeks before I expect. Gwah.

OH NO!!!!! NOT JUNEBUGS!!!!!!!!
Melanie, in your research did you find out how long they'll be here for?
I'm still trying to understand why we need junebugs at all in this world.... I don't like them either!
i hear ya, girls. junebugs...shmoonbugs. yuck. what was God thinking??! ;)
ps - i DO love a good 'ole tire swing. was it hard to put up??!
Nope, not hard at all. Unless you consider the part where Mitch (who knew how to tie a secure know from memory) only got halfway up the ladder before deciding that we needed a different plan! I just searched for "knot tire swing" and got all the answers I needed.
P.S. I don't know how long the cursed beetles will be here. Too long.
junebugs used to be so bad in my neighbourhood that i remember putting mosquito netting around my face with my hood up to run to our neighbour's house. it is fun to watch a cat watch the junebugs try to get in the house though.
Gaaahh! Beastly little things. When we were living in Magnetic Hill, I remember one smacked me right in the mouth! Luckily it was closed at the time.
Hello Maren,
I love your new swing. When I was a little girl, we use to go to my grandpas and swing on his tire swing that he made for us. It was so much fun.
