Jann and JP

Barb gave Debie and I tickets to see Jann Arden for our birthdays. Happy birthday to us! (Thanks, Barb!) I've been to some shows where the artist has done little more than stand in one spot and sing—Bob Dylan, most disappointingly, among them—but Jann is squarely in the "entertainer" category. She alternated between singing songs and her particular brand of storytelling and humour, which made for an amusing evening (to say the least!). She sang Cat Steven's "Peace Train," which put sunshine and happiness in my heart, and then tore it out when she sang "Hangin' By a Thread." I forgot to breathe.

But the best part of the show for me was the opener, JP Hoe. I was more than a little skeptical of the unknown, mysteriously monikered musician, but he was so good. His folk/rock/alt country tunes are well-crafted and held up beautifully to being stripped down to his voice and the acoustic. This is the song he opened with last night. Have a listen...

JP Hoe - Always

Check out his myspace to hear more.

And now to bunker down for the 25 CENTIMETRES OF SNOW forecast for tomorrow. Aaaaargh! Flee, cruel unceasing winter! Begone!
