While I'm on the Topic...

I became aware of the Campaign for Real Beauty a few years ago, while I was also reading The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf. The goal of the campaign is to "broaden narrow definitions of beauty. To challenge stereotypes. To celebrate the diverse, the healthy, the real, the truly beautiful." You may have seen Dove ads in magazines or on TV that feature women who have big curves or buck teeth and big smiles. It gives me hope to think that there's an organization with brand recognition that is using its power to say, "You are beautiful just the way you are. Celebrate and take care of yourself and the people around you."

Check out the Campaign for Real Beauty website. I highly recommend the photography gallery. And whether you're male or female, allow yourself to be challenged to think outside the Hollywood definition of beauty.

Alright, I'll get off the soapbox for now. Monday will bring cute kid things once again!

Awesome topic.

You'll find even more stereotyping of "what beautiful should be" over here. it's also interesting to note that plastic surgery is epidemic here too.

I think they have a healthier ideal in Africa, and India. of course then we run into how they treat women.

Hey, Liam, thanks for stopping by!

We know a young Japanese woman who came to Canada through an exchange program a few years ago. She doesn't fit into any North American adult sizes, so she shops in the children's section -- yet she is obsessed with how fat she is, and that she wishes her facial features were more Western. Maybe media saturation is the common ground. There's definitely some kind of shared screwiness going on!

it's shocking just how addicted most people are to plastic surgery over here.

The idea nose, belly, even a procedure to "restore your virginity"

Rach ran into that problem of not finding many thigns that fit. She did find a size Zero but they're still slightly too big on her. At least she's happy with who she is!

Wow... "restore your virginity." Talk about exercises in missing the point!
